What is the Certified Cargo Security ProfessionalTM credential?

The Certified Cargo Security ProfessionalTM credential is a specialty credential that denotes that the holder has voluntarily demonstrated the level of knowledge and skill in the design, implementation and administration of security protection within the cargo/transportation industry.

Why has the CCSP credential been developed?

With 67% of all freight tonnage being shipped annually in the U.S. by truck, it seems appropriate that ATA (the trucking industry’s national representative) and the North American Transportation Management Institute (the trucking industry’s national training/educational organization) would lead the way in helping secure the nation’s supply chain.  Through its CCSP credential, ATA and NATMI are able to recognize those individuals in the transportation field, who have earned the requisite knowledge, skill and experience to be deemed cargo security professionals; and to offer affordable, convenient and comprehensive training to those wishing to either design, implement and/or enhance their operations’ cargo security policies and practices, or  hone and expand their knowledge and techniques related to cargo security, loss prevention and theft.

Why is it termed “Certified Cargo Security ProfessionalTM?”

The trucking industry knows firsthand the myriad of existing and emerging transportation security issues.  ATA and NATMI acknowledges that security transcends the “truck” and that the ultimate goal of all transporters is to deliver cargo complete and undamaged.  Protecting cargo – the “asset” – means understanding all of the vulnerability points in the supply chain.  It means being able to evaluate and employ the appropriate resources and practices to successfully evaluate, reduce and eliminate security risks and losses from the time the product is packaged until the time it is sold.  The term represents the scope and breadth of the credential.

Who is well-suited for the CCSP credential?

The CCSP credential is designed for the professional who is involved in or responsible for transportation, cargo and workplace security, risk management, loss prevention, and law enforcement.  It is also for professionals who recognize the significance of these areas on their business operations.  Individuals, who have been educated in, designed, implemented and/or managed cargo security operations within all areas of transportation, are encouraged to take the CCSP examination.

Why should you obtain the CCSP credential?

Aside from increasing your effectiveness and earning potential, the CCSP credential is evidence to employers and customers alike that the CCSP is capable of and willing to undertake and successfully manage the fast-paced, complex and demanding dynamics of cargo/transportation security.
